{"id":874,"date":"2012-11-19T17:33:58","date_gmt":"2012-11-19T22:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=874"},"modified":"2012-11-19T17:33:58","modified_gmt":"2012-11-19T22:33:58","slug":"the-end-is-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/the-end-is-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"The End is Coming!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another Sunday Homily<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/111812.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B\u00a0<\/a><br \/>\nDaniel 12:1-3<br \/>\nHebrews 10:11-14,<br \/>\n18 Mark 13:24-32<br \/>\nNovember 18, 2012<\/p>\n<p>The end of the year is just two weeks away. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No, I\u2019m haven&#8217;t flipped my lid.\u00a0\u00a0I know very well that the secular calendar year still has six weeks to go.\u00a0 I\u2019m talking about the church year or \u201cLiturgy Year\u201d as we call it.\u00a0 The new liturgical year begins on the First Sunday of Advent and that is just two weeks away.\u00a0 So, right now we are at the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, our readings speak of \u2018End Times.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0When will the End Times come?\u00a0 We don\u2019t know.\u00a0 There are people who try to predict the exact day.\u00a0 Just last year somebody issued their proclamation of when the \u201cRapture\u201d was coming.\u00a0 I don\u2019t remember the exact date they predicted but I do remember it was a Saturday night at 6 p.m. because when I finished Mass that evil, I reminded people about the prediction but said we had nothing to worry about because the prediction was for the \u201cRapture\u201d not the final end and as Catholics we don\u2019t believe in the Rapture so we have nothing to worry about! \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What makes us think about the End Times?<\/p>\n<p>In the reading from Daniel, they were in a time of intense persecution and wondered if it could be the end.\u00a0 Wondering, they described the final end as \u2018a time unsurpassed in distress.\u2019\u00a0 In their fear, God assures them by speaking of Michael the Archangel as our guardian.<\/p>\n<p>In the gospel, Jesus speaks of the days after \u201cthat tribulation\u201d and the Second Coming of the Son of Man.\u00a0 At the time Mark\u2019s Gospel was written, the people were again facing a great persecution.\u00a0 The Temple would soon be destroyed and that could mean the End was coming.<\/p>\n<p>When the End come?<\/p>\n<p>Today in the news we hear of many natural disasters.\u00a0 Hurricanes like Sandy, flooding and droughts, and earthquakes.\u00a0 Sometimes it makes me wonder if the end is coming.\u00a0 It might really seem like it for the people affected by Sandy or any other of disasters. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The truth is we don\u2019t know when the End will come.\u00a0 Jesus tells us that it will come like a thief in the night; But of that day or hour, no one knows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The End will come and we will be judged.\u00a0 Some will live forever in Heaven while others might know an \u201ceverlasting horror and disgrace.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We don\u2019t know when the End will time.\u00a0 It shouldn\u2019t really make a difference.\u00a0 The early Christians after the Resurrection lived with an expectation that the Second Coming was going to happen very soon.\u00a0 Jesus say this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.<\/p>\n<p>Well, a lot of people have passed away since then and the Second Coming hasn\u2019t happened.\u00a0 Jesus wasn\u2019t wrong.\u00a0 He was speaking collectively of the \u2018Christian generation&#8217; from the time of Jesus&#8217; First Coming to his Second Coming.<\/p>\n<p>The End hasn\u2019t come yet but many people have faced their own end in earthly death.\u00a0 The question we must ask is \u2018are we ready?\u2019 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Are we ready for the Second Coming?\u00a0 Are we ready to face judgment at our own earthly death?\u00a0 How much time do we need to get ready?\u00a0 What does it mean to be ready?<\/p>\n<p>Ideally, being ready means we will be without sin.\u00a0 Being ready means we are doing God\u2019s Will.\u00a0 If only these was an easy as we would like.<\/p>\n<p>What are you doing to prepare for the End?\u00a0 We should ask ourselves what do need to be doing to get ready.\u00a0 Are we putting any effort into getting ready?\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We could ask ourselves do we put more effort into getting ready for all the Christmas festivities or to getting our live in order for Jesus\u2019 arrival.<\/p>\n<p>As to our past sins, Jesus is dying to forgive our sins.\u00a0 That\u2019s the sacrifice we celebrate in the Eucharist.\u00a0 We just need to confess and repent.\u00a0 Are we ready?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another Sunday Homily 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B\u00a0 Daniel 12:1-3 Hebrews 10:11-14, 18 Mark 13:24-32 November 18, 2012 The end of the year is just two weeks away. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No, I\u2019m haven&#8217;t flipped my lid.\u00a0\u00a0I know very well that the secular calendar year still has six weeks to go.\u00a0 I\u2019m talking about the &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/the-end-is-coming\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading &lsquo;The End is Coming!&rsquo;
