{"id":7980,"date":"2022-05-03T07:45:07","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T11:45:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=7980"},"modified":"2022-05-03T07:45:07","modified_gmt":"2022-05-03T11:45:07","slug":"respecting-the-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/respecting-the-dead\/","title":{"rendered":"Respecting the Dead"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">God has given us life.&nbsp; \u201c<em>God formed the man out of the dust of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being<\/em>\u201d (Genesis 2:7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">God made us <strong><em>body and soul<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp; We are called to care for each person, <strong><em>body and soul<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp; When a person dies, we offer a funeral.&nbsp; At the funeral we pray for God\u2019s consolation for the family.&nbsp; At a funeral Mass, we offer the sacrifice of the Mass for our loved one to be welcomed into Heaven, <strong><em>body and soul<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Then, we do not discard the body of our loved one as a waste product.&nbsp; We lay them to a dignified place of rest.&nbsp; We care for the cemeteries because we care for our loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The Catholic Church prohibited cremation until the last 50 years.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because there were cultures that cremated all the deceased based on beliefs that <strong><em>denied the Resurrection<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 The Catholic Church has come to allow cremation as long as it is not based on a belief that denies the Resurrection,keeps the remains intact of the deceased, and their remains are given the same dignified burial as a full body.\u00a0 In calling for the remains to be kept intact, it remains impermissible in our Catholic faith to scatter ashes, divide them, or leave them sitting someplace until a later date.\u00a0 We are to treat the cremains with the same respect do the person.\u00a0 (See <em>Ad Resurgendum cum Christo<\/em> written by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.\u00a0 August 15, 2016.
