{"id":766,"date":"2012-07-04T12:42:30","date_gmt":"2012-07-04T16:42:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=766"},"modified":"2012-07-04T12:42:30","modified_gmt":"2012-07-04T16:42:30","slug":"its-a-small-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/its-a-small-world\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s a Small World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the things I have been reminded of during my transition to <a href=\"http:\/\/immconch.dor.org\" target=\"_blank\">Immaculate Conception <\/a>is how interconnected we can be.\u00a0 Here are some examples.<\/p>\n<p>When one parishioner introduced herself, I recognized the last name and discovered I know her brother-in-law in Odessa.<\/p>\n<p>Our Pastoral Associate was at my Confirmation 31 years ago because she knew one of the other people I was confirmed with.<\/p>\n<p>One of the parishioners was on the team for the Cursillo weekend I made in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>While I did not know him, my first funeral was for a man who had taught at Odessa-Montour School for over 30 years, near Watkins Glen that I call home.<\/p>\n<p>One of our school parents started to tell me about her family and I discovered that I had met her father while I was in Elmira.<\/p>\n<p>One of our choir members recognized me as having done a relative&#8217;s burial service in Penn Yan.<\/p>\n<p>These are not big connections.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t really know any of these people well but it does show that we live in &#8220;a world of connections.&#8221;\u00a0 We are not just a bunch of isolated individuals.\u00a0 We are created by God to live in community.\u00a0 Every one of these connections happened through the church for me.\u00a0 God is the connecting point.<\/p>\n<p>With the new translations at Mass, our opening prayer normally ends<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son<br \/>\nwho lives and reigns with you<br \/>\nIn the Unity of the Holy Spirit<br \/>\none God for ever and ever.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Holy Spirit is\u00a0what binds us in faith.<\/p>\n<p>Peace,<\/p>\n<p>Fr.
