{"id":723,"date":"2012-05-05T13:20:42","date_gmt":"2012-05-05T17:20:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=723"},"modified":"2012-05-05T13:22:02","modified_gmt":"2012-05-05T17:22:02","slug":"remain-in-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/remain-in-me\/","title":{"rendered":"Remain in Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this <a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/050612.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">Sunday&#8217;s (May 6, 2012) Gospel<\/a>, Jesus proclaims &#8220;I am the vine, you are the branches&#8221; and He calls us to &#8220;remain in him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What do we do to <em>remain in Jesus<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>It begins with coming to Mass but it does not end there.\u00a0 To &#8216;remain in Jesus&#8217; requires more than an hour a week.\u00a0 For me, remaining in Jesus involves a desire to constantly be aware of His presence in our lives.\u00a0 It is to live with an <em>attitude of gratitude <\/em>acknowledging the good things that God has done for us.<\/p>\n<p>For me, remaining in Jesus also means that we seek to learn more about what Jesus teaches, how He calls us to live, and to strive to deepen our relationship with Jesus.\u00a0 Some people seem content just to take a minimalist approach with Jesus.\u00a0 They want to do just enough to get by.<\/p>\n<p>For me, to be a minimalist is not enough, meaning if you desire is to do just enough, then you aren&#8217;t doing enough.\u00a0 I want to deepen my own relationship with Jesus.\u00a0 Some of how I do this is my ministry.\u00a0 Sometimes just seeing the faith of other people (especially in difficult moments) inspires me in my own faith.\u00a0 Preparing homilies helps be grow in my own faith.\u00a0 For instance, for a typical Sunday homily, I began reflecting on the readings on the previous Sunday afternoon.\u00a0 I spent time reflecting on the readings everyday and look at commentaries written by biblical scholars to find what God is saying to you and me.<\/p>\n<p>I also like to read and most of what I read is theology magazines and books.\u00a0 When people hear that I like to read theology material, they sometimes ask if I ever read for fun.\u00a0 Occasionally I do read a mystery or spy novel for fun but reading theology is relaxing and\u00a0enjoyable for me.\u00a0 From reading, I also grow in my own faith.\u00a0 Of course, it also helps me in my ministry.\u00a0 I spent seven years in seminary, six of it in full-time studies.\u00a0 I still feel like I just know the time of the iceberg so I want to learn more.\u00a0 I read theology not because I have to but because I want to.<\/p>\n<p>However, I know reading isn&#8217;t for everyone.\u00a0 What do you do to <em>remain in Jesus<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Peace,<\/p>\n<p>Fr.
