{"id":656,"date":"2012-01-12T07:08:39","date_gmt":"2012-01-12T12:08:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=656"},"modified":"2012-01-12T07:08:39","modified_gmt":"2012-01-12T12:08:39","slug":"what-is-it-that-we-seek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/what-is-it-that-we-seek\/","title":{"rendered":"What Is It That We Seek?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/011212.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">today&#8217;s (Jan. 12, 2012) readings<\/a>, we can see two different relationships with the Lord.\u00a0 In the first reading, the Israelites battles against their enemy, the Philistines (who David will defeat in the future).\u00a0 When the Israelites lose the battle, they decide that they lost because God was not with them in battle.\u00a0\u00a0 Their solution is to take the Ark of the Covenant into battle with them.\u00a0 For them the Ark of the Covenant is the presence of God in this world.\u00a0 Surely they will not be defeated with the Ark?<\/p>\n<p>But they are!\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 I think that while they belief of God&#8217;s presence in the Ark was tied to their faith they weren&#8217;t really acting &#8220;in faith&#8221;.\u00a0 The Ark of the Covenant contained the stone tablets with the Ten Commandments.\u00a0 The Ark is a sure sign of God&#8217;s presence among us but it is not a &#8220;magic&#8221; solution to ensure victory.\u00a0 It would be like a person wearing a Cross or carrying the Eucharist with them always (not allowed) thinking that nothing bad could ever happen to them <em>just because<\/em> they are wearing the Cross or carrying the Eucharist.<\/p>\n<p>In the gospel reading, the leper comes to Jesus saying, &#8220;If you wish, you can make me clean.&#8221;\u00a0 The leper truly believes that Jesus has the power to heal him.\u00a0 There is no doubt.\u00a0 But the leper also trusts in what &#8220;Jesus wishes.&#8221;\u00a0 He comes to Jesus in faith, trusting that Jesus will provide.<\/p>\n<p>Do we come to Jesus seeking &#8220;magic&#8221; fixes to our problems or do we come to Jesus in faith, asking Him to fix our problems but ultimately trusting in whatever His will is, knowing that no matter what happens Jesus walks with us?<\/p>\n<p>Peace,<\/p>\n<p>Fr.
