Appreciating the New Translations<\/p>\n
In each Eucharistic Prayer we hear the words over the \u201cchalice\u201d, Take this all of you and drink from it, this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant.\u00a0 It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven.\u00a0 Do this in memory of me.\u00a0 As was discussed previously, the word \u201ccup\u201d will become \u201cchalice.\u201d\u00a0 The other significant change is from \u201call\u201d to \u201cmany.\u201d\u00a0 Does this mean Heaven used to be open for \u201call\u201d and now will be restricted to \u201cmany\u201d?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Heaven remains open to all, but not all will accept God but many will.\u00a0 The prophet Isaiah speaks of how the Lord will justify many (Isaiah 53:11b-12).\u00a0 Both Matthew and Mark record Jesus\u2019 words of Jesus at the Last Supper as \u201cfor many\u201d (Matthew 26:27-28, Mark 14:23-24).\u00a0 In the Catechism of the Catholic Church (paragraph 605), we read. \u201cThe Church, following the apostles, teaches that Christ died for all men without exception: \u201cThere is not, never has been, and never will be single human being for whom Christ did not suffer.\u201d\u00a0 So, we use the word \u201cmany\u201d according to Jesus\u2019 own words but we know the gift is offered to all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
