{"id":570,"date":"2011-09-23T17:00:04","date_gmt":"2011-09-23T21:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=570"},"modified":"2011-09-23T17:00:04","modified_gmt":"2011-09-23T21:00:04","slug":"the-opening-prayer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/the-opening-prayer\/","title":{"rendered":"The Opening Prayer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s the bulletin article for September 25th on the new translations.<\/p>\n<p>Appreciating the New Translations<\/p>\n<p>After the Gloria, comes the Collect, more commonly known as the Opening Prayer.\u00a0 The wording of this prayer will seem longer and more formal than in the old translations.\u00a0 The old translations simplified the wording which can be good to make it more understandable but sometimes the true content and intention was lost in the simplification.\u00a0 Simple can be nice if it helps us express what we truly believe.\u00a0 More evident in the new translations will be the four part structure of the prayer (invocation\/amplification\/petition\/and conclusion).\u00a0 The invocation calls upon God, generally with the simple words \u201cAlmighty God\u201d and then comes words announcing the good things God has done for us.\u00a0 Then the prayer asks God to help us in some way before concluding by invoking the Trinity, \u201cwe ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s the bulletin article for September 25th on the new translations.
