{"id":475,"date":"2011-04-16T11:48:59","date_gmt":"2011-04-16T15:48:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=475"},"modified":"2011-04-16T11:50:55","modified_gmt":"2011-04-16T15:50:55","slug":"more-words-for-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/more-words-for-god\/","title":{"rendered":"More Words For God"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are some more of my thoughts on words we use to describe God.<\/p>\n<p>Potter &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/nab\/bible\/isaiah\/isaiah64.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Isaiah 64:7<\/a> says &#8220;Yet, O LORD, you are our father; we are the clay and you the potter: we are all the work of your hands.&#8221;\u00a0 God is the one who formed man out of the ground and breathed live into him (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/nab\/bible\/genesis\/genesis2.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Genesis 2:7<\/a>).\u00a0 When we refer to God as <em>the potter<\/em>, it is not just a reference to God forming the first man from the ground.\u00a0 God <em>continues <\/em>to shape and form us each day <em>if we let him<\/em>.\u00a0 We do not instantly become perfect humans.\u00a0 It is something we have to work at our whole lives.\u00a0 Part of what we need to work on is opening ourselves to God so that he can\u00a0shape us into what he calls us to be.\u00a0 We cannot become what God calls us to be by ourselves.\u00a0 We need God to be the potter.<\/p>\n<p>Creator &#8211; When we think of God as <em>creator<\/em>, the stories that most often come to mind are the two stories of creation found in \ufeffchapters <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/nab\/bible\/genesis\/genesis1.htm\" target=\"_blank\">one<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/nab\/bible\/genesis\/genesis2.htm\" target=\"_blank\">two<\/a> of Genesis.\u00a0 These stories have literal explanations of how God created the earth.\u00a0 Yet, God as creator do not simply create and walk away.\u00a0 God is not like a manufacturer who makes a product, sells its, and never knows what happens to what he has made.\u00a0 God remains involved in creation and continues to mold us and shape us as our potter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Peace,<\/p>\n<p>Fr.
