{"id":340,"date":"2010-10-08T17:54:48","date_gmt":"2010-10-08T21:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=340"},"modified":"2010-10-08T17:57:09","modified_gmt":"2010-10-08T21:57:09","slug":"new-york-state-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/new-york-state-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"New York State Elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyscatholic.org\" target=\"_blank\">NYS Catholic Conference<\/a> of Bishops have just issued a statement, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyscatholic.org\/pages\/news\/show_newsDetails.asp?id=523\" target=\"_blank\">Our Cherished Right, Our\u00a0Solemn Duty<\/a><\/em>, reminding us of our duty to vote.\u00a0 Yes, we hold <em>separation of church and state<\/em> as an important principle.\u00a0 We, as Catholics, also firmly believe in the duty of each individual to stand up for what we believe in.\u00a0 One vital way of doing this is exercising our right to vote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We vote based on our values rather than our self-interest.\u00a0 There may not be a perfect candidate but God has given us the gift of wisdom to help us decide which candidate most closely believes in the same values we do.\u00a0 To do that we must take the time to watch the news, read the newspaper, or search the Internet to find out what we can about the candidates and then make a prayerful choice between the candidates.<\/p>\n<p>For more on Catholic voting principles check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithfulcitizenship.org\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.faithfulcitizenship.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Peace,<\/p>\n<p>Fr.
