Homily"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/030820.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"2nd Sunday of Lent, Year A (opens in a new tab)\">2<sup>nd<\/sup> Sunday of Lent, Year A<\/a><br>Genesis 12:1-4a<br>Psalm 33:4-5, 18-19, 20, 22 (22)<br>2 Timothy 1:8b-10<br>Matthew 17:1-9<br>March 8, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hear today\nthe story of Jesus\u2019 Transfiguration.&nbsp; He\ntook Peter, James, and John \u201c<em>and led them up a high mountain<\/em>.\u201d&nbsp; On the mountain they saw Jesus transfigured,\nhis facing shining, and his clothes \u201c<em>became white as light<\/em>.\u201d&nbsp; Moses, symbolizing the law, and Elijah,\nsymbolizing the prophets appeared there.&nbsp;\nTo all of this Peter said, \u201c<em>Lord, it is good that we are here.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, it is good\nthat they were there but why did Jesus take them with him this time when He\nwent alone other times?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus knew\nhis passion was coming.&nbsp; He knew they\nwould need assurances of who He is.&nbsp; So,\nHe took them with him to see the transfiguration to give them assurance, to\ngive them \u201c<em>the strength that comes from God.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We too will,\nas Paul says to Timothy, bear our \u201c<em>share of hardships for the gospel with\nthe strength that comes from God<\/em>.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are called\nto place our trust in God, to work for, as we pray for in the Lord\u2019s Prayer,\nthy kingdom come, thy will be done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The story of\nthe Transfiguration assures us of who Jesus is so we can trust him.&nbsp; We are given an example of that trust in\nAbram, who will become Abraham, in the first reading.&nbsp; God said to Abram, \u201c<em>Go forth from the land\nof your kinsfolk.. to a land that I will show you.<\/em>\u201d&nbsp; Abram doesn\u2019t know where the land is and he\ndoesn\u2019t ask.&nbsp; He simply trusted and \u201c<em>went\nas the LORD directed him.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are all\ncalled to work for the building up of the Kingdom of God.&nbsp; We do this through giving of our time,\ntalent, and treasure.&nbsp; Last week, we\nheard about our increased offertory program, \u201cBe the Gift That Makes a\nDifference.\u201d&nbsp; Today, we hear from one of\nour parishioners about that.&nbsp; Ask\nyourself what you can do to help build up the Kingdom of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">My church is composed of people like me.<br>I help make it what it is.&nbsp; <br>It will be friendly, if I am.&nbsp; <br>Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them.&nbsp; <br>It will do great work, if I work.&nbsp; <br>It will make generous gifts to many causes, <br>If I am a generous giver.&nbsp; <br>It will bring other people <br>into its worship and fellowship, <br>f I invite and bring them.&nbsp;
