Today’s Gospel (August 27, 2010 -Friday, 21st Week in Ordinary Time<\/a>) is a parable familiar to many, the Parable of the Ten Virgins.\u00a0 All ten came when they heard the bridegroom was coming.\u00a0 Five were well prepared and five were not.\u00a0 They all brought oil for the lamps but the five who were foolish did not bring enough<\/em> oil.\u00a0 They thought it would be short and easy.\u00a0 Instead, they had a endure a time of waiting.<\/p>\n

We are called to be persistent in our waiting.\u00a0 We pray for our needs but they will be answered in God’s time, not our own.\u00a0 Today we celebrate the feast of St. Monica<\/a>.\u00a0 She was born in the fourth century to a Christian family\u00a0but she was given in marriage to a non-Christian.\u00a0 Together they had four children.\u00a0 Monica kept her faith throughout her life.\u00a0 She prayed for the conversion of her husband and he became Christian a year before he died.\u00a0 She also prayed for her eldest son’s conversion.\u00a0 He tried\u00a0other religions\u00a0before turning his heart to the Catholic faith.\u00a0 Monica prayed for him for many years before he converted.\u00a0 He was St. Augustine<\/a>,\u00a0who became one of the great Catholic fathers of his time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It took many years for him to convert but Monica remained faithful in praying for him.\u00a0 Are we persistent?\u00a0 Or do we give up?<\/p>\n

You might also ask yourself if you are ready, ready for the great things that God will do for you.<\/p>\n
