{"id":258,"date":"2010-07-03T09:33:50","date_gmt":"2010-07-03T13:33:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=258"},"modified":"2010-07-03T09:33:50","modified_gmt":"2010-07-03T13:33:50","slug":"what-do-you-stand-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/what-do-you-stand-for\/","title":{"rendered":"What Do You Stand For?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend we celebrate our nation&#8217;s independence.\u00a0 On July 4, 1776, the colonists signed the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.archives.gov\/exhibits\/charters\/declaration_transcript.html\" target=\"_blank\">Declaration of Independence<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 The colonists had fought for representation so that their voices could be heard.\u00a0 They declared their independence and fought the Revolutionary War for seven years.\u00a0 They believed that all people have certain rights given by God that can never be taken away.\u00a0 We continue to learn what it truly means to believe that <em>all <\/em>people have these rights.\u00a0 For instance, it was almost 9o years after the signing of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archives.gov\/exhibits\/charters\/declaration_transcript.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Declaration of Independence<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0<\/em>before slavery was abolished.<\/p>\n<p>God has given each of us a special dignity, made in his image.\u00a0 We are called to stand up for the rights of all.\u00a0 As we celebrate the Fourth of July, I encourage you to think about the freedom and rights that you have and to pray that all may have the same rights.<\/p>\n<p>Peace,<\/p>\n<p>Fr.
