Homily"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/061718.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">11<sup>th<\/sup> Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B<\/a><br \/>\nEzekiel 17:22-24<br \/>\nPsalm 92:2-3, 13-14, 15-16 (2a)<br \/>\n2 Corinthians 5:6-10<br \/>\nMark 4:26-34<br \/>\nJune 17, 2018<\/p>\n<p>Using a parable, Jesus speaks to the crowds about the farmer scattering seed on the land and then waiting for it to grow without knowing how it grows.\u00a0 The farmer knew to plant the seed in good soil.\u00a0 He knew to water and fertilize it.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t know how but he knew if he did these things, the seed would bear a good crop.<\/p>\n<p>He understood this as happening by God\u2019s will.\u00a0 It was the beauty of nature.<\/p>\n<p>Today, through science, we know more about the biology of how the seed becomes a plant, grows, and bears the crop.\u00a0 Relying only on the science, many have lost the sense of God in it.\u00a0 For me, God is still very much at the heart of it.\u00a0 It is not some random scientific occurrence.\u00a0 God brings order to creation.<\/p>\n<p>If we were to look at the average seed without having any idea what it is, we would consider it small and insignificant.\u00a0 Some seed would be seen as nothing but dust and thrown out but in even the smallest of seeds lies the origin of so much more than what is seen in the seed.<\/p>\n<p>God has planted a great seed within us.\u00a0 Do we allow the seed to flourish?\u00a0 God is the source of not just our faith but all that is within us.\u00a0 It is God who knows what fruit we are to bear.\u00a0 It is in relying on God that we become, as described in the psalm, \u201c<em>vigorous and sturdy<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Becoming the \u201c<em>largest<\/em>\u201d as Jesus speaks of is not simply a matter of making lots of money or gaining great notoriety.\u00a0 To be a great \u201cperson\u201d involves body <strong><em>and<\/em><\/strong> soul.\u00a0 We need physical food to nourish our bodies and we need spiritual food (God\u2019s Word and the Eucharist) to nourish our souls.<\/p>\n<p>Do we seek nourishment for our souls?<\/p>\n<p>Becoming all that God calls to be does not require us to do everything alone.\u00a0 It means working together, pooling our gifts, to make God\u2019s kingdom known.\u00a0 In this way, God takes what we do and multiplies it with the work of others <strong><em>and with his grace<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We can look at the seed within ourselves.\u00a0 We can also think about the seed in others.<\/p>\n<p>Today is Father\u2019s Day.\u00a0 What does it mean to be a \u201cfather\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>Does it not mean to take the child that begins in its mother\u2019s womb as a tiny cell, the smallest of all, and help the child grow to reach its potential?<\/p>\n<p>This can include being a provider for the child, providing a home, food to eat, and caring for the child.\u00a0 This goes beyond physical care to help your children become all that they are meant to be?\u00a0 Faith must be part of this.\u00a0 A person can only reach their full potential when they learn to look beyond themselves to see their place in God\u2019s plan.<\/p>\n<p>Fathers and mothers are to help their children be all they are meant to be.\u00a0 This can be a challenge.\u00a0 Children don\u2019t always listen.\u00a0 Parents aren\u2019t perfect either.<\/p>\n<p>Parents also don\u2019t want to let go.\u00a0 It\u2019s graduation season.\u00a0 For the graduates, it can be both exciting and scary in the unknown.\u00a0 The same is true for parents as their children move to the next stage of life.\u00a0 Be thankful for the joy of seeing the growth and rely on God to always watch over them.<\/p>\n<p>May we be all that God means for us to be.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>11th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B Ezekiel 17:22-24 Psalm 92:2-3, 13-14, 15-16 (2a) 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 Mark 4:26-34 June 17, 2018 Using a parable, Jesus speaks to the crowds about the farmer scattering seed on the land and then waiting for it to grow without knowing how it grows.\u00a0 The farmer knew to plant &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/11th-sunday-in-ordinary-time-year-b-homily-2\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading &lsquo;11th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B &#8211;
