{"id":2189,"date":"2017-06-26T07:26:52","date_gmt":"2017-06-26T11:26:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=2189"},"modified":"2017-06-26T07:26:52","modified_gmt":"2017-06-26T11:26:52","slug":"stop-judging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/stop-judging\/","title":{"rendered":"Stop Judging"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Stop judging<\/em>, these are the first words Jesus says to his disciples in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/062617.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">today&#8217;s gospel<\/a>. \u00a0Jesus goes on to tell us that we will be judged by the same standard by which we judge others. \u00a0He also tells us we must look at our own sins before the sins of others.<\/p>\n<p>All of this is true. \u00a0It is what Jesus taught but how well do we understand it? \u00a0Many today take Jesus&#8217; words to stop judging to mean we can&#8217;t talk about any behavior as wrong. \u00a0This leads us into relativism. \u00a0Relativists say you can believe and do whatever you want as long as it doesn&#8217;t hurt anyone else. \u00a0To relativists there is no absolute truth.<\/p>\n<p>But there is a Truth and God is the source of the Truth!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/062617.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Our psalm today <\/a>contains the words, &#8220;<em>Blessed the nation whose God is the Lord<\/em>.&#8221; \u00a0What does it mean to call God &#8220;Lord&#8221;? \u00a0I believe it means that it means that we accept God as our leader and will follow what he teaches. \u00a0It isn&#8217;t always easy. \u00a0We have the Bible to guide us but the New Testament was written 2,000 years ago and the Old Testament even longer ago. \u00a0So, the situations in which we live are different. \u00a0That doesn&#8217;t mean the Bible isn&#8217;t relevant today. \u00a0It just means the we need to rely on the Holy Spirit that has been guiding our Church for 2,000 years to help us know how to apply what Jesus said today.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus clearly said &#8220;<em>stop judging<\/em>&#8221; but he also said to his disciples &#8220;<em>Follow me.<\/em>&#8221; \u00a0To follow Jesus is live as he lived, to follow his teaching. \u00a0It isn&#8217;t always easy but may we always be like Abram (who will become known as Abraham)\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/062617.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the first reading <\/a>who &#8220;<em>went as the Lord directed him.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Peace,<\/p>\n<p>Fr.
