{"id":1943,"date":"2016-11-06T13:00:47","date_gmt":"2016-11-06T18:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=1943"},"modified":"2016-11-06T13:00:47","modified_gmt":"2016-11-06T18:00:47","slug":"32nd-sunday-in-ordinary-time-year-c-homily","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/32nd-sunday-in-ordinary-time-year-c-homily\/","title":{"rendered":"32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C &#8211; Homily"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/110616.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">32<sup>nd<\/sup> Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C<\/a><br \/>\n2 Maccabees 7:1-2, 9-14<br \/>\nPsalm 17:1, 5-6, 15<br \/>\n2 Thessalonians 2:16-3:5<br \/>\nLuke 20:27-38<br \/>\nNovember 6, 2016<\/p>\n<p>When I arrived here just four months ago, we were all hot.\u00a0 That was summer.\u00a0 Now, summer is over and we are almost halfway through Fall.\u00a0 This means the temperatures are getting colder and with that the gardens have died off and the leaves have been changing color and falling to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>As we see this \u201cdying\u201d our church year will come to a close soon and a new church year will begin with Advent.\u00a0 As we approach the <em>end<\/em> of this year, our readings begin to look at the end times.\u00a0 This week the question of the Resurrection is presented.<\/p>\n<p>The Sadducees ask Jesus a question about the Resurrection.\u00a0 They don\u2019t believe in the Resurrection.\u00a0 They just want to trap Jesus but Jesus is not afraid of them.\u00a0 He tells them the Resurrection will be different than anything we have experienced.<\/p>\n<p>In the Resurrection everyone who believes in God will be raised up body and soul to Heaven to be with God.\u00a0 This changes the way we look at death.\u00a0 The mother and seven brothers in the first reading are tortured for their faith but they are strengthened by faith in the Resurrection.\u00a0 They know that even though they suffer in this world, there are better things to come in Heaven so they patiently endure the sufferings and speak of their belief in Heaven.<\/p>\n<p>As we think about the Resurrection, Paul&#8217;s words to the Thessalonians invite us to find \u201c<em>everlasting encouragement and good hope<\/em>\u201d that we our hearts be encouraged and strengthened by our belief.\u00a0 Our belief in the Resurrection helps us to endure our earthly sufferings.<\/p>\n<p>As Paul speaks of the strength we have from our faith he also says \u201c<em>pray for us<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 The \u201cus\u201d is ministers like Paul who work to spread the Gospel.<\/p>\n<p>This is fitting as this week we celebrate National Vocations Awareness week.\u00a0 A vocation is a calling from God.\u00a0 We are all called to use the gifts that we have been given for the building up of God\u2019s kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>So we can think about both the Resurrection and vocations.\u00a0 As we do this, I would be remiss if I didn\u2019t mention Fr. Felix.\u00a0 Friday was the first anniversary of his death so we pray that he now shares in the Resurrection.\u00a0 We can give thanks for the years that he served God, beginning in Ghana and eventually coming here where he led you for over six years.<\/p>\n<p>Who has helped you to know God?\u00a0 Perhaps it is priests like Fr.
