{"id":1145,"date":"2013-07-12T07:54:54","date_gmt":"2013-07-12T11:54:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=1145"},"modified":"2013-07-12T07:54:54","modified_gmt":"2013-07-12T11:54:54","slug":"14th-sunday-in-ordinary-time-year-c-homily","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/14th-sunday-in-ordinary-time-year-c-homily\/","title":{"rendered":"14th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C &#8211; Homily"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/070713.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">14<sup>th<\/sup> Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C<\/a><br \/>\nIsaiah 66:10-14c<br \/>\nGalatians 6:14-18<br \/>\nLuke 10:1-12, 17-20<br \/>\nJuly 7, 2013<\/p>\n<p>Once again, Jesus is teaching us as believers of what it means to be a disciple.\u00a0 We have different callings in a common faith.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus had previously sent out the Twelve and now he sends out 72.\u00a0 There are common aspects and there are differences in what they do.<\/p>\n<p>The point here is that the 72 are <i>appointed <\/i>by Jesus to be \u201csent <i>ahead<\/i>\u201d of him.\u00a0 They are to prepare people for Jesus\u2019 coming.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes as disciples we think we don\u2019t know enough to share the gospel.\u00a0 It\u2019s a fact we don\u2019t know everything about our faith.\u00a0 I spent seven years in seminary and I <i>know<\/i> I don\u2019t know everything.<\/p>\n<p>None of us knows everything but we don\u2019t have to teach \u201ceverything\u201d to people that we share faith with.\u00a0 It all starts with just sharing our faith to encourage people to come to church.\u00a0 Then, we can teach them more as a church.\u00a0 And then we leave it in Jesus\u2019 hands.<\/p>\n<p>Is it easy?\u00a0 Jesus speaks of carrying no money bag, sack, or sandals.\u00a0 We are to trust that God will provide (often through the people we minister to). \u00a0As Isaiah speaks of, God will provide for the needs of those who serve him.<\/p>\n<p>Will everyone like us?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Jesus says if they don\u2019t accept us, we move on.\u00a0 Being a disciple of Jesus <i>is not about being liked<\/i>.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t about how many people we bring to church (although more is better).<\/p>\n<p>It isn\u2019t about being perfect ourselves before we share faith.\u00a0 If we wait to be perfect, we\u2019ll never get there.\u00a0 In fact, the fact that we are not perfect and that Jesus loves us anyway is part of what we need to be telling others.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s about knowing Jesus as the Way, and the Truth, and the Life and sharing that with other people.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus knows it\u2019s not going to be easy.\u00a0 That\u2019s why he says we will be like lambs among wolves.\u00a0 People will attack us when we speak up for our faith.\u00a0 People may ridicule us when we speak against abortion.\u00a0 People wonder why the Catholic Church is so involved in the gay marriage debate.<\/p>\n<p>We need to get involved because our faith must be part of who we are and what we stand for.\u00a0 Jesus handed himself over for Crucifixion for our sake.\u00a0 Let us stand up for Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>14th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C Isaiah 66:10-14c Galatians 6:14-18 Luke 10:1-12, 17-20 July 7, 2013 Once again, Jesus is teaching us as believers of what it means to be a disciple.\u00a0 We have different callings in a common faith.
