{"id":1037,"date":"2013-03-27T10:55:31","date_gmt":"2013-03-27T14:55:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=1037"},"modified":"2013-03-27T10:55:31","modified_gmt":"2013-03-27T14:55:31","slug":"people-want-to-be-forgiven-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/people-want-to-be-forgiven-ii\/","title":{"rendered":"People Want to be Forgiven II"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/032713.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">Today&#8217;s readings (3\/27\/13), <\/a>contrast two &#8220;people&#8221;.\u00a0 In the reading from Isaiah we hear of the Suffering Servant.\u00a0 Ultimately this prophecy finds fulfillment in Jesus but we can all fulfill in some way as Christian disciples seeking to God&#8217;s Will.\u00a0 In the gospel reading, we hear how Judas Iscariot goes to the chief priests and ask what they will give him if he hands Jesus over to them.\u00a0 Judas is the one who betrays Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, the Suffering Servant is the model we should follow, not Judas Iscariot.\u00a0 Are there times when we are like Judas?\u00a0 Do we betray Jesus?\u00a0 What does it mean to betray?\u00a0 The definition used with regards to Judas is to turn one over to the enemy.\u00a0 Another definition of &#8220;betray&#8217; is to fail to follow the person&#8217;s teaching.<\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t hand Jesus over to the enemy but do we fail to follow Jesus?<\/p>\n<p>Of course, ideally the answer should be no but the reality is that we do.\u00a0 We call it sin.\u00a0 We need forgiveness for our sins.\u00a0 We want to be forgiven.\u00a0 Last week I <a href=\"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/blog\/?p=1025\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a> about our desire to be forgiven in coming to the Sacrament of Reconciliation.\u00a0 It continues this week.\u00a0 Last weekend, we have a small group of parishioners on retreat.\u00a0 Saturday morning I joined them to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation with them for almost two hours.\u00a0 In the afternoon, I heard regular confessions in the parish which lasted for almost another two hours.\u00a0 Yesterday was our Diocesan Day of Penance with the opportunity for individual confessions scheduled from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Honoring the Seal of Confession, I cannot and will not say anything about the individual confessions.\u00a0 Starting the day, I figured a few people would come but that I would have signficant periods without anyone there.\u00a0 I was wrong.\u00a0 I entered the confessional at 12:28 p.m. and heard confessions continuously, except for one restroom back, until 9:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not that we are terrible people but neither are we perfect.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t take a genius to figure this out.\u00a0 God was very much aware of this when He sent his Son Jesus to die for us on the Cross.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what we will celebrate on Good Friday.\u00a0 Come and hear the story and know God&#8217;s forgiveness.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about the Sacrament of Reconciliation check out <a href=\"http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/ls\/reconciliation.htm\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/renewaloffaith.org\/ls\/reconciliation.htm<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Peace,<\/p>\n<p>Fr.
